Meet Dr. Paul Adamus

abwret-a course instructorDr. Paul Adamus is a subject matter expert and has collaborated for several years with SALMTEC in the creation and instruction of the Alberta Wetland Rapid Evaluation Tool – Actual (ABWRET-A) Training Courses.

Dr. Paul Adamus is a wetland scientist and ecologist, who has twice been invited to testify on wetland matters to the U.S. Congress, and has also testified as the sole expert witness on wetlands in a major legal case in Michigan.  Dr. Adamus is best known as the author of several rapid assessment methods and of WET (Wetland Evaluation Technique), developed originally for nationwide use by the Federal Highway Administration in the early 1980s and used widely by federal agencies for assessing the functions of wetlands in the decades that followed.  Over the past 40 years he has authored over 100 publications, including 9 regional methods that use practical indicators to assess the ecosystem services of wetlands.  Dr. Adamus is currently nearing completion of a book on wetland and stream assessment on contract to Elsevier Publishers.  Dr. Adamus has assisted the provincial government in Alberta in developing and calibrating rapid methods for assessing functions of Alberta’s wetlands, as well as assisting New Brunswick and Nova Scotia governments in developing and calibrating rapid methods for assessing functions of their wetlands.
